At Mutual Empowerment we believe that people want to do the right thing, that our environments and upbringing have a huge impact in our belief systems and prejudices, and that when given an opportunity to learn, examine, and experience "the other" growth happens. Even though our approach is empathetic we tell it like it is and we won't shy away from pointed disagreement. We embrace truth as we understand it and as we have researched it.
Dr. Martha Brackeen- Harris and Elizabeth Parada joined forces when they realized that together they could offer an exponentially wider range of perspective and understanding which they can share with others. Their combined experiences as classroom teachers, senior level administrators, board members, parents, and practitioners in the field of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in independent schools and make them uniquely qualified to understand the challenges and possibilities within these historically white institutions as they sought to become more diverse and inclusive school communities. More recently in the public school sector, Martha has delved into the expanding DEIB focus within school boards, while Elizabeth has faced the reality of inner-city classroom instruction and its serious challenges.
